Running OpenVMS on Intel or AMD platforms

Virtualization provides an excellent alternative for those of you that still run mission critical applications using OpenVMS Alpha or VAX based hardware and are figuring out how to migrate your system to a new platform.

With this technology you can extend the life of your application while minimizing the risks of having problems related to aged hardware and lack of support. Virtual machines are based on the host/guest paradigm. The OpenVMS application can be run on a virtual imitation of the hardware layer using modern server technology as the host. This approach allows your system manager to run the application without any modifications. The OpenVMS system and application has no knowledge of the host's operating system because it is not aware that it's not running on real hardware.
Virtualization of OpenVMS systems are running with total success on Pharmaceutical, Military, Government, Education and Heath environments all over the world so this is proven and stable technology. This approach provides the following advantages:
• Resolve the issues associated to hardware part availability on legacy hardware
• Allow the application to take advantage of new storage technology probably already available on your data center
• Reduce costs associated to legacy hardware support
• Extend application life without costly application conversion projects
• Save by reducing power and air conditioner requirements on your data center (green solution)
